A Prayer for a New Rector

Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds and hearts of the Search Committee and the Vestry as we seek a new rector for Good Shepherd Church, that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Transition Timeline

  • In June of 2021, the vestry appointed a search committee to begin the process of finding candidates for the position of Rector of Good Shepherd Church.
  • On June 19, the search committee met for the first time with our diocesan search consultant, Janet Beason. The diocesan search process was outlined and committee assignments were given out.
  • The search committee is compiling a Parish Profile, which describes who we are as a parish to prospective candidates.
  • The parish profile will be approved by the diocese and by the Good Shepherd vestry. After which, this parish profile will be attached to our website and available for viewing by potential candidates.
  • The search committee will complete the National Church Office of Transition Ministry questionnaire. After approval by the diocese, this questionnaire will be sent to the national church. Then our position will be shared with potential candidates throughout the national church.

Next Steps: By late fall, the Search Committee will begin receiving applications from candidates to review.

  • All applications for the position of rector of Good Shepherd Church will be sent to the diocese for their review.
  • The diocese will share with the search committee all potential candidates for our rector.
  • The search committee will review the candidate applications and will follow up with interviews and reference checks.
  • The search committee will present to the vestry the potential candidates’ applications to the vestry.
  • The vestry of Good Shepherd Church will determine if any one of the applicants will be a good fit for our congregation.
  • Once the vestry has determined that such a person has been found, in consultation with the Bishop, they will offer a call to that person to become our next rector.

The Search Committee and the Vestry will provide updates to the congregation as we progress through this transition. We ask that you keep our church leadership and fellow members of the parish in your prayers during this time.

Some FAQs that may help answer questions about the process.

How long will it be before we have another rector?

It typically takes 12-18 months.

Couldn't the Interim just be our next Rector?

No. The Interim has a different responsibility during this transition period -- to get Good Shepherd Church ready for its next rector.

If we don't have a rector, who's in charge?

Our Senior Warden, Beth Hatcher, and our Vestry will be the ecclesiastical authority. They will work in conjunction with the Interim Rector to make decisions.

What does the process involve?

Please see the timeline of the process at the top of this page.
